billboard attracted my attention the other day and I remembered that it's only days away from Durga Puja !!

It reminded me of the various different types of Durga Puja celebrations I have experienced in the fifty years of my life, some simple , some very ordinary and some very lavish.

Back in Jorhat ,the Assamese celebrated Durga Puja in simple style but there were quite a few even in the tea estates that we visited . We had been fortunate enough to visit a family celebration in our land lord Mr.Chandra Dutta's family home.

Life in this quite, dreamy city (although it's a city but it felt like a small town) was slow and simple, people down to earth and that could be visible in the Puja's organised. Often we saw historical monuments or incidents of importance or Hindu-Muslim unity being shown, the important period of the mighty Ahom rulers being depicted in the Durga Puja celebrations. Bongal Pokhuri Puja Samiti, Basbari Puja Samiti, Sri Sri Ramkrishna Sevasharam, Horishabha Puja committee are a few I remember .....as we lived in Pub Bongal Pokhuri.

Unlike Kolkata,t he city is not over crowded so we could drive our car right up to the Pandals in most places. In Bengal, Durgapur, Asansol Siliguri, Malda, Rayjung, Bishnupur and other towns celebrate Durga Puja very differently and as we have been travelling all over Bengal ,we have had a lot of good experiences.

Will share these with all my friends in future posts.

THANKS FOR VISITING.... I HOPE YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND MY POSTS USEFUL....PLEASE LEAVE BACK YOUR COMMENTS....I WOULD BE HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU....
