Dimer Dhokar Dalna

This is a dish I learnt from my mother in law Mrs Geeta Banerji and I have been preparing it for the past twenty eight years. My mother in law is allergic to eggs but prepares it very well. Many call it Dim Bhape or Steamed Egg Curry.


Ingredients :

For the Dhoka:
Eggs                                                            4
Milk                                                            1 cup
Potato,boiled                                               1,large size
Onion,chopped                                            1/2
Green chilly                                                  1
Ginger                                                          1/2 inch

For the Gravy:
Potato,cubed                                              1,large size
Tomato                                                       1,small
Green Peas,boiled                                       4 tbsp
Onion Paste                                                1 ,large
Ginger-garlic Paste                                      1 tbsp
Green Chilly paste                                       1 tsp
Turmeric Powder                                        1/4 th tsp
Coriander powder                                       1/2 tsp
Red Chilly Powder                                      1/2 tsp
Salt                                                             as per taste
Whole GaramMasala                                   1 tbsp
Bay Leaf                                                     1
Garam Masala Powder                                1/4 tsp
Ghee                                                           1 tsp

Method of Preparation :

For the Dhoka :
Put all the ingredients in a blender together and blend well. In a greased bowl, put the prepared liquid. Cover and seal with an aluminium foil. Steam When the mix is steamed for 15 minutes it becomes stiff. Cool and then cut into squares. Deep fry the pieces in hot oil and keep aside.

For the gravy:
Heat 2 tbsp mustard oil or refined oil, if that's what you prefer, and add the potatoes. When brown and soft remove.
Add Whole garam masala and bay leaf in the same oil. Saute a bit.
Then add onion paste, ginger - garlic paste and green chilly paste. Cook stirring all the while.
Add  the tomatoes and cook, mashing with your spoon.
Then add all the powdered spices. Saute well and add a dash of water to help you. Add the potatoes and put a lid for 5 minutes.
After that remove the lid and add the boiled peas.
Add a pinch of garam masala powder and 1 tsp ghee, if you like, before turning off the heat.

To Serve:
Take a flat dish.
Arrange the dhokas on the dish.
Top with the gravy .
