Pantua (Bengali Dessert)

 Ingredients :

Cottage Cheese (paneer/chana)                                                 1 kg
Kheer (mewa)                                                                           375 grams
Flour (maida)                                                                             250 grams
Sugar,powdered                                                                        1 kg
Green Cardamom Powder                                                         2tsp
Baking Powder                                                                          1 tsp
Vegetable Oil                                                                             for deep frying






Method :

 Make a  thick sugar syrup by boiling with 1kg sugar and water in a pan. Keep aside.
 Mix the cottage cheese, kheer and flour together. 
 Also add green cardamom powder and  powdered sugar. 
 Add 1 tsp of baking powder.
 Mix all ingredients to make a soft dough.
 Make small equal size balls of the dough.
 Now you may or may not put filling in each of the balls of finely chopped pistachio or a pinch of green cardamom seeds or some mishri or  a few strands of saffron or a small ball of mewa.
Heat oil for deep frying in a wok.When hot, put the Cottage cheese balls in small batches and fry on medium flame till golden.
Remove to a dish. Fry all the balls.Then put the golden balls into the sugar syrup. Keep the pantua immersed in sugar syrup.
While serving remove from syrup and serve.

  1. Hi Jyoti, you haven't mentioned how much powdered sugar to add to the chhana dough. I just tried without sugar in the dough. they are soaking right now....Waiting eagerly..
